Getting the right treatment on time can mean the difference between life and death when it comes to prostate cancer.

Early Prostate Cancer Detection:
Early detection of prostate cancer is very important. Any many that falls under the high risk category needs to have regular medical exams, including prostate exams. If you do not present symptoms of prostate cancer, your doctor will perform a prostate exam. This exam usually involves rectal exam. While this may sound unpleasant, it is key in making sure that you do not have problems with prostate cancer. Prostate cancer detection and treatment is extremely important, so do not skip your annual physical exams. If your doctor suspects a problem, here are some common ways to detect prostate cancer.
  • Blood testing: If your doctor thinks that you may have a prostate problem, he or she may order blood testing. The PSA, also called prostate specific antigen can test the blood and detect the presence of cancer cells in the blood stream. This test usually requires a simple blood draw and is usually simple and quick.
  • Bone Scan: when looking at specific prostate cancer detection and treatment, your doctor may order a bone scan. A bone scan can detect metastatic cancer cells in the body. This test is usually very accurate in finding prostate cancer.
  • Sonogram or tissue test: A sonogram and a tissue sample are other ways to detect prostate cancer. Most doctors will recommend one or more of these tests to find out whether you should proceed with cancer treatment.
If you have one of these blood tests done and your doctor finds that you do in fact have prostate cancer, then you will need to seek the right kind of treatment. Not all cancer patients respond to certain treatments the same way. For this reason, it will be important that you work closely with your doctor to find what is right for you. Remember, prostate cancer detection and treatment are extremely important for all men, especially those that are high risk.
